Myredvest: a new initiative that will allow self-checkout expansion across RONA store network!

In an omnichannel mindset, we are always looking for ways to offer an optimized and seamless customer experience across all channels. This approach has led our IT teams to actively work on a new platform called myredvest that simplifies cash register usage, making it possible to offer a user-friendly self-checkout service. RONA is now proud to announce that these self-checkouts will soon be available in RONA and Réno-Dépôt big box stores across Canada!

A project still in development

To be able to offer a self-checkout option and a more impactful experience to our customers, our IT teams have been working on this intuitive interface that interacts with many internal systems. Our IT teams have been collaborating internally to develop this important project since October 2020, which was first implemented in September 2021 at RONA Barrie, Ontario. Not only can it be used easily by our customers in the self-checkout aisles currently being deployed in over 50 RONA and Réno-Dépôt stores across the country, but it is also used by our cashiers, who really appreciate its user-friendly attributes.

Beware, not all self-checkout systems are created equally. And with myredvest, completely designed and managed in-house, everything is easy and simple. So much so that even if Lowe’s stores have a self-checkout option, we are also planning to eventually transfer them on this new system. As of now, about every item that can be put in a cart can be scanned and purchased at self-checkouts where available.

So many benefits

Where myredvest is available, customers have more autonomy on their purchases. Among other things, they are able to scan one item, and the system will display an image of the product. A full description will appear on the screen, with the price and discounts, if any. And bonus: every screen is tactile!

This system also offers many advantages to the cashiers themselves! For example, they can easily check any item and verify its characteristics in one look. Basically, they see their work greatly improved with this interface, whether it be on the efficiency or conviviality sides.

“Our teams work really hard on this project because we want to offer more possibilities to our customers and serve them the way they want to be served. Some people want to take control of their own purchasing path. But we also want to give customers the choice: if they don’t want to use self-checkouts, we still have cashiers available for them,” said Justin Lauria, Senior Product Manager.

He also praises the teamwork and the efforts that have accelerated myredvest release. “We were very fortunate to have the best of the best on this project.”

Can’t wait to try it? You’re lucky, myredvest will be gradually available in more RONA and Réno-Dépôt Big Box stores starting March 1 – make sure to check it out!

If that kind of project intrigues you, you could be part of the next phase! We are always looking for amazing talents to join our teams. Apply here: ronainc.ca/careers
